This course explores the development of postural control from birth to late childhood. By looking at key milestones like rolling, crawling and walking, you will see that you can use these stages to inform how to correct postural and bio-mechanical dysfunction in adulthood. You learn how to identify these bio-mechanical issues and use exercises (PODs – posture oriented drills) that target specific dysfunctional movements. Topics discussed include musculoskeletal anatomy and physiology, fundamental Kinesiology concepts related to movement, developmental posture control, breathing and the core and how eyes guide movement. Practical activities include palpitation, muscle testing, experimentation with corrective exercise and group work to increase comprehension of these concepts. You will leave the course with an assessment protocol and tools that you can apply immediately to your practice as a massage therapist, physiotherapist, personal trainer, yoga instructor etc. Participants should wear comfortable, workout type clothing.
